Do we like Tyrion Lannister?
A character from Game of Thrones (2011-2019)
Our score: 7 out of 10. Mostly yes. He's clever, funny and kinder than his family, and he stands up for the overlooked. He's also a drinker with a temper and a few ugly choices behind him.
Tyrion is the youngest child of Tywin Lannister, head of the wealthiest and most powerful house in the Seven Kingdoms. He was born a dwarf. His family treats him as a disgrace, and his father and sister blame him for his mother's death in childbirth. He can't win with a sword, so he wins with his brain, his tongue and his money. The story begins as the realm slides towards war, and Tyrion is pulled into the middle of it.
Tyrion is the heart of the show for many viewers. He's sharp, self-mocking and well read, and he's more decent than the people around him. He champions the underdog, treats servants and outcasts fairly, and gives sound advice when he's in charge. His flaws are real. He drinks heavily, he's bitter, and he sometimes lets pain and anger decide what he does. That's why he lands at a solid 'we'd back him' instead of a perfect score.
When he's falsely accused of a terrible crime, the trial pushes him to a breaking point. He kills his own father and the woman he had trusted, and he flees across the sea. In exile he finds a new purpose as an advisor to a young conqueror. His judgment falters at the end, though he stays loyal to what he thinks is right.
