Do we like Tuxedo Mask?

A character from Sailor Moon (1991-1997)

Our score: 8 out of 10. A bit of a show-off, but he has a steady heart and he's there when it counts. We'd back him, even if the cape and the dramatic entrances are a lot.

Tuxedo Mask is the masked alter ego of Mamoru Chiba, a brilliant and aloof university student. In Sailor Moon, Usagi Tsukino is an ordinary schoolgirl who becomes the magical warrior Sailor Moon and fights monsters sent to hurt people. Tuxedo Mask appears early on, throwing roses and offering cryptic encouragement from the rooftops.

His appeal is a mix of mystery and reliability. He's a loner with a sharp tongue, and in daily life he and Usagi bicker constantly. As the hero, he's gallant and brave, and he steps in when the Guardians are outmatched. He's driven by a sense of duty and a search for something he can't quite name, and that makes him sympathetic as well as dashing.

He loses a point or two because he's sometimes more of a rescuer than a team player, and his secretive, brooding streak causes needless trouble. But his loyalty is never in doubt, and his courage and care for others are why we'd back him.
