Do we like Tris Prior?
A character from Divergent (2011–2016)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back her. She's brave, loyal and keeps growing, though she can be reckless and quick to act on impulse.
Beatrice 'Tris' Prior lives in a future Chicago where society is split into factions, each built around one virtue. She grew up in Abnegation, the selfless faction, but she has never felt she belongs. On choosing day she makes a surprising decision and joins a different faction, where she has to prove herself in brutal initiation.
Tris is brave, stubborn and honest, and she learns fast. Her most important trait is that she is Divergent: her mind doesn't fit one faction's mould, and that makes her dangerous to those in power. She sticks up for people who are being bullied, and she grows from a timid girl into a capable fighter.
We back her because her courage is mostly used for other people. She can be reckless, secretive and self-sacrificing to a fault, and she doesn't always trust her allies. But her moral compass stays steady under pressure, which is why she scores high rather than perfect.
