Do we like Thor?
A character from Marvel Cinematic Universe (Thor, The Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok and more) (2011–2022)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He starts as an arrogant lump, but he grows into a loyal, brave and big-hearted friend who keeps showing up when it counts.
Thor is heir to the throne of Asgard, a golden realm of gods. In his first film he's a cocky warrior who charges into a fight he was told to avoid. His father Odin strips him of his divine powers and banishes him to Earth, where he falls for mortal scientist Jane Foster. Stuck among humans, he starts to learn humility.
Over the later films he becomes a team player and a protector. He's the Avengers' heavy hitter, but his warmth, goofy sense of humour and stubborn loyalty make him easy to like. The 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok is often credited with reviving him. His storyline after Ragnarok was received much more favorably than his earlier films. That film leans into his comedy and his sense of duty to his people.
He also takes some heavy losses, and he doesn't always handle them well. After Infinity War he falls into grief and guilt, and Endgame shows him at a low point. He still rises to the occasion. Love and Thunder then finds him trying to find inner peace, until a new threat drags him back into action. Thor mostly fails when he's arrogant and succeeds when he's thinking about others, and that's why he scores well. He loses a point or two for his early swagger and some sulky stretches.
