Do we like The Predator?
A character from Predator (1987)
Our score: 2 out of 10. Mind-blowing hunter with a code of honour, but it kills for fun. We'd admire the craft and still run the other way.
A Central American jungle mission sends Dutch and his elite rescue team in to extract hostages. Something else is already out there, watching them from the trees. It is a technologically advanced alien hunter that cloaks itself and tracks its targets by heat.
The Predator is a patient, brutal stalker. It picks off armed soldiers one at a time and leaves trophies of its kills. It also seems to follow rules: it goes after the dangerous and the armed, and it treats the hunt as a ritual, not as random violence.
We score it low because the honour code is only a way to dress up murder. It's an awesome and fascinating villain, but nobody wants it on their side. It gets a couple of points for discipline and for respecting a worthy opponent.
