Do we like Tanjiro Kamado?

A character from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (2019–present)

Our score: 10 out of 10. Yes, absolutely. He's brave, hard-working and kind even to his enemies. We'd follow him into any fight and trust him with anything.

Tanjiro is a gentle, hard-working boy who sells charcoal in the mountains to support his family. His life is upended when a demon slaughters his family. Only his younger sister Nezuko survives, and she has been turned into a demon herself. The story follows his quest to find a cure for her.

To save her, Tanjiro trains under the former slayer Sakonji Urokodaki, learns the Water Breathing sword style and joins the Demon Slayer Corps. He is smart, determined and big-hearted. His purity sometimes seems at odds with a job that means killing, but he never loses his empathy.

He gets a 10 because he is the kind of hero you can simply believe in. He is stubborn and never gives up. He is also generous to everyone he meets, including the enemies he has to fight. He's not perfect, and his kindness can make him naive. Even so, everything he does comes from love for his sister and a wish to stop others suffering as he did.
