Do we like Sulley?

A character from Monsters, Inc. (2001)

Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's a big softie with a strong conscience who risks his career and his safety to protect someone small.

Sulley is the star Scarer at Monsters, Inc., the power company of Monstropolis. Monsters believe human children are toxic, but their screams power the city, so Sulley sneaks into kids' bedrooms through closet doors to collect them. He is confident and well loved at work, and he shares an apartment and a close friendship with his one-eyed assistant, Mike Wazowski.

His life changes when a small human girl gets into the monster world. Sulley starts out panicked and tries to get rid of her. He is soon won over by her cheerful nature and starts to look after her. He is gentle and patient with her, which shows how much warmth there is under his huge frame.

We score him high because his instincts are good. He's loyal and brave, he questions the system he works in, and he cares more about protecting someone vulnerable than about his own standing. He loses a little for the years he spent doing the job without asking questions, and for how long he takes to see that his best friend's feelings matter too.
