Do we like SpongeBob SquarePants?

A character from SpongeBob SquarePants (1999–present)

Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's kind, loyal and hard-working, and his optimism is hard to resist. He can wear you out, but he never means any harm.

SpongeBob is a square yellow sea sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea with his pet snail, Gary. The show follows his days in Bikini Bottom. He adores his job flipping Krabby Patties at the Krusty Krab for the money-loving Mr. Krabs.

His best friend is the simple-minded starfish Patrick. His next-door neighbour is the grumpy Squidward, who is his co-worker and his favourite person to accidentally annoy. He also has a hopeless, long-running boating-school career under the patient Mrs. Puff.

The score comes from his heart. He treats every task, whether it's a shift at work or a jellyfishing trip, as the best thing that could happen to anyone. He is honest, generous and forgiving, and he keeps trying when things go wrong. He loses a couple of points because he's naive, easily taken advantage of, and sometimes oblivious to how his noise and schemes affect other people. He is still the friend you'd want in your corner.
