Do we like Spock?
A character from Star Trek (1966–1969)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's loyal, brave and honest, and his calm logic gets the crew out of trouble again and again. His dry wit is a bonus.
Spock is the science officer, and later first officer, of the starship USS Enterprise in Star Trek. He is the son of a Vulcan father and a human mother. Vulcans suppress their emotions in favour of pure logic, so he lives between two worlds. He is Captain Kirk's principal confidant. The crew's explorations of strange new worlds usually need his cool analysis.
His appeal is that he is not actually cold. He's endlessly curious and fiercely loyal, and he has a deadpan sense of humour. He often argues with the ship's doctor, McCoy, who is hot-headed and emotional. The two quarrel constantly but clearly care about each other. His friendship with Kirk is the heart of the show.
We give him a 9 because he is almost always right and almost always kind underneath, even when he won't say so. He loses a point for the odd stiff, tactless moment and for being so hard on himself over his human side. He is still one of fiction's most trustworthy officers, and he is an easy person to back.
