Do we like Sid Phillips?
A character from Toy Story (1995)
Our score: 2 out of 10. No. He's a menace to every toy in reach and a bully to his little sister. He gets a little sympathy for being a kid, and for being more careless than cruel.
Sid is the neighborhood terror in Toy Story. He's a scowling kid with a skull T-shirt and a room full of broken, remade toys. When Woody and Buzz end up in his reach, he becomes the toys' worst danger. His house is a nightmare for them, and his dog Scud is another threat.
He's not a mastermind. He's a bored, loud kid who likes explosions and splicing toys together, and he doesn't think about whether they feel anything. Because the toys are alive, though, his play is a horror story to them, and that's why the film plays him as a villain. He also scares his sister, which doesn't help his case.
We score him low because he only ever causes harm and never shows remorse. He does get a small lift for his creativity and for being a child who has no idea the toys are alive. He gets a comeuppance in the film, when the toys finally turn the tables and show him what they can do. After that he's much less of a threat.
