Do we like Shoto Todoroki?

A character from My Hero Academia (2014–2024)

Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He starts cold and guarded, but he becomes a loyal, brave classmate who keeps choosing to do right.

Shoto is a student in Class 1-A at UA High, a school that trains teenagers to be superpowered heroes. His Quirk lets him make ice on his right side and fire on his left. He is the youngest son of Endeavor, one of the country's top pro heroes.

His childhood was hard. Endeavor wanted a child strong enough to surpass the hero All Might, and pushed him with that goal. Because of this, Shoto starts the story detached and reserved. He refuses to use his fire side, as a quiet protest against his father.

His main arc is learning that his power belongs to him and isn't his father's. Friends in Class 1-A, especially Izuku Midoriya, push him to open up, and over time he becomes warmer, more team-minded and more willing to fight for others. Some critics think the series sidelined his family story later, but he stays one of its most likable and capable heroes.

We give him an 8. He starts out cold and is hard to reach, but he is brave and capable, and over time he grows into someone who cares about people. Few characters change as much as he does.
