Do we like Sansa Stark?
A character from Game of Thrones (2011-2019)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back her. She starts out naive and easy to underestimate, but she survives, learns and becomes one of the smartest players in Westeros.
Sansa is the eldest Stark daughter and a proper young lady, raised on tales of chivalry. When her father is called south to serve the king, she goes to King's Landing, sure that she's heading for a fairytale betrothal to the handsome crown prince. The court turns out to be nothing like the stories.
Sansa is polite, observant and stubborn in a quiet way. Early on she's easy to dislike, because she's snobbish, she's unfair to her sister Arya, and she believes the pretty story over the plain truth. That's also why she works so well as a character. She's a sheltered kid who gets a harsh education, and we watch her learn from the people who hurt her. She grows far more capable than anyone, herself included, would have guessed.
After her father is executed, she's held captive by the Lannisters and then married off against her will. She escapes, but she's passed between more schemers, including Littlefinger, who treat her as a pawn. Eventually she stops being a pawn. She helps retake Winterfell from the Boltons, and she later runs the North as a shrewd and respected leader. She insists the North stay independent, and she ends the series as Queen in the North.
We give her an 8 because she's loyal, resilient and clever, and she uses what she's learned against the people who wronged her. She loses a couple of points for a sharp edge and a few early blunders, but she's a character we cheer for.
