Do we like Sailor Moon (Usagi Tsukino)?

A character from Sailor Moon (1992–1997)

Our score: 9 out of 10. A crybaby who oversleeps and loves snacks, but she never leaves a friend behind and she forgives her enemies. We'd back her every time.

Usagi Tsukino is a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Tokyo. She is cheerful and always late. She cries easily, does badly at school and would much rather eat sweets or play video games. Everything changes when a talking black cat called Luna gives her a magic brooch and tells her she is Sailor Moon, a warrior who fights evil in the name of love and justice. She then has to find her fellow Guardians and a lost princess.

Her flaws are real. She whines, she dodges responsibility, and early on she isn't sure she wants the job. But her heart is huge. She trusts people, believes that almost anyone can be reached, and cares for her friends and family more than for herself. That kindness is her real power. It is why her team follows her, even though the other Guardians are often more disciplined or better at fighting.

We score her a 9 because her growth feels earned. She starts as the least likely hero and becomes the one who will not give up. She meets threats with compassion where others would use force. She loses a point because she can be careless and tearful when it matters, but you would still want her on your side.
