Do we like Roy Kent?
A character from Ted Lasso (2020-2023)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes. He's grumpy and swears constantly, but he's honest, loyal and secretly kind. We'd back him every time.
Roy Kent is the aging captain of AFC Richmond, a struggling English football club. An American coach, Ted Lasso, is hired to run the team, and Roy is its gruffest, most famous face. He's famous for scowling, swearing and never suffering fools.
Underneath the growl, Roy cares deeply about the game, his teammates and the people he loves. His honesty is blunt, but it's real. In a show built on kindness, he's the cynic who gets won over without losing his edge. Much of the comedy comes from how badly he hides his soft side.
He scores a 9 because his worst traits are loud rather than harmful. He's loyal and self-aware, and he keeps trying to be better. Losing a point for the temper and the stubborn pride.
