Do we like Rhaenyra Targaryen?
A character from House of the Dragon (2022–)
Our score: 7 out of 10. Mostly yes. She's principled, brave and wants to rule fairly, but she's proud and slow to see how far her choices cost others. We'd back her, with some wincing.
Rhaenyra is the daughter of King Viserys Targaryen, in a Westeros where dragons are still a power. She grows up bold and headstrong, flying her dragon Syrax. Her father names her his heir, which is unheard of in a realm that has always preferred male rulers.
The show is about what that choice sets off. Rhaenyra's court has rival factions, and she has to protect her place in it. She is shown as intelligent, warm toward those she loves and stubborn about what she is owed. Her flaws are real: she is impulsive and proud, and her private choices cause political trouble.
She earns a 7 because her intentions are mostly decent and she is better than many rivals around her. Even so, she keeps making decisions that put others in danger. She's someone we'd follow, though not blindly.
