Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's cocky and impulsive, but he keeps choosing to help strangers, and he's loyal to his friends.

Ratchet is a Lombax mechanic who lives on a quiet planet and dreams of leaving it for adventure. He's handy with a wrench, and he's also good with gadgets and ships. The series is a comic sci-fi action platformer from Insomniac Games, known for its huge, inventive arsenal.

His life changes when he meets Clank, a small runaway robot who carries a warning about a galactic threat. Ratchet starts out wanting a ride off his planet, and the two of them end up stopping scheming villains and saving worlds. Their friendship is the heart of the series.

He scores well because his instincts are good even when his judgment isn't. He's cocky, hot-headed and sometimes selfish, and over the games he learns to put others first and to trust his friends. He's a hero with some rough edges, which makes him easy to like and back.
