Do we like Puss in Boots?
A character from Shrek 2 (2004)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's vain, theatrical and a bit of a rogue, but he's loyal, brave and funny, and he switches to the right side quickly.
Puss in Boots first appears in Shrek 2, a fairy-tale comedy. Shrek and Fiona visit her parents' kingdom, and the trip goes badly. Puss is a feline swordsman with a Spanish-flavored accent, a feathered hat and a big reputation. He's a mercenary, and King Harold hires him for a job.
His dramatic entrance and his fencing skill make him a standout among the new characters. He's proud and a little vain, but he has a real code of honor. He can also drop the act and use the big, pleading kitten eyes when it suits him.
We give him an 8 because he has charm, courage and loyalty, and his main flaw is a theatrical ego. He fails to beat Shrek, then admits who hired him and offers his help because Shrek spared his life. He joins the gang as a friend, and that was enough for him to get his own films, including Puss in Boots (2011) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022).
