Do we like Princess Jasmine?
A character from Aladdin (1992)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, we'd back her. She's brave, quick-witted and loyal, and she's no one's prize. She does a lot more than wait to be rescued.
Jasmine is the spirited daughter of the Sultan of Agrabah. A law says she must marry a prince before her next birthday. She hates being treated as a trophy, and she has never really been outside the palace.
She slips out into the city market in disguise and meets Aladdin, a street thief with a good heart. The two bond quickly. She's curious, fearless and not easily impressed by wealth or titles, and she's also gentle with people who have less than she does.
Jasmine scores high because she has real agency. She makes her own choices, challenges the people who try to control her, and refuses to be fooled by charm or power. She's occasionally naive about the world outside, but she learns fast and keeps her principles. That makes her one of the best Disney heroines to follow.
