Do we like Portgas D. Ace?
A character from One Piece (1997–present)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Loyal, brave and fiercely protective of his family. He's a bit reckless and proud, but we'd happily sail with him.
Ace grew up in the mountains of East Blue with Luffy and Sabo, raised by a gruff bandit and watched over by a Marine grandfather. The three boys swore brotherhood. Ace set out to sea alone at 17 and built a name as a pirate.
He is easygoing and warm, and he is also stubborn, proud and prone to sudden naps. He ate the Mera Mera no Mi, a fruit that lets him become fire. He leads the Spade Pirates, and he later becomes a commander in a famous crew, where he's treated like family.
He scores high because of his loyalty and his willingness to protect others. He loses a point for his reckless pride and a short temper that sometimes gets him into trouble. Much of his story is about found family and about what he thinks he deserves.
