Do we like Percy Jackson?

A character from Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2005)

Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's loyal, brave and funny, and he keeps picking his friends over his own safety. He's also impulsive, but he means well.

Percy is a troubled twelve-year-old from New York City. He has been kicked out of one school after another, and his home life is rough. He discovers he's the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. That sends him to Camp Half-Blood, a training ground for the children of the gods. The books follow him from there. The Disney+ series covers the same story, with Walker Scobell in the role.

Percy's strengths are loyalty and nerve. He is a decent kid first and a demigod second. He jokes through scary situations, and he will take on a monster or an angry god before he'll abandon a friend. His best friends are the satyr Grover and the clever Annabeth.

His flaws keep him likeable. He's impulsive, he mouths off to powerful beings, and he sometimes acts before he thinks. He's also quick to doubt himself. But his heart is always in the right place, and he keeps growing across the series. That is why we give him a 9.
