Do we like Omar Little?
A character from The Wire (2002-2008)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, mostly. He's charming, brave and principled, and he only targets people in the game. He's still a violent robber, so we back him with our eyes open.
The Wire follows Baltimore's drug trade, police, port, schools and politics. Omar is a legend on the streets: a lone robber who walks up to dealers in a long coat with a shotgun, whistling as he goes. He is openly gay, sharp-witted and fearless.
His defining trait is his code. He says he never puts a gun on someone who isn't in the game. That makes him a threat to drug crews and a strange kind of hero to viewers, who see him as more honest than most of the institutions around him.
We score him an 8. He is violent and a thief, and his trade does real damage. But his charm, loyalty and consistency make him easy to root for. Critics often rank him among TV's greatest characters.
