Do we like Obelix?
A character from Asterix (1959–present)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's loyal, brave and kind to animals, and he's very strong. He'll also flatten a Roman legion over a snack.
Obelix lives in a small Gaulish village that still holds out against Julius Caesar's Rome. He carves menhirs (standing stones) and delivers them, and he's best friends with the clever Asterix. Together they go on journeys across the ancient world, usually ending in a brawl with Roman legionaries.
He fell into the druid's magic potion as a baby, so he has permanent super-strength and isn't allowed more of it. He loves roast boar and hates being called fat. He treats a menhir as a handy tool and often thinks it's light enough for a small dog to carry. His sulks and tantrums are easy to forgive.
He gets a high score because his heart is always in the right place. He's gentle with Dogmatix, his little white dog, and loyal to his village and to Asterix. His faults are being greedy, vain and short-tempered. The violence is comic, and he usually just wants to be left alone with his dinner.
