Do we like Neville Longbottom?
A character from Harry Potter (1997-2007)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, easily. He's kind and loyal, and he keeps standing up for what's right even when he's terrified. He may be the most quietly brave person at Hogwarts.
Neville starts out as the clumsy, anxious boy at Hogwarts. He loses his toad, forgets his passwords and dreads Potions class. His gran raised him, and he's sure he's a disappointment next to the family he's supposed to live up to. He's also warm, honest and loyal, and he's good at Herbology.
His strength is that he doesn't let fear stop him. Early on he tries to stand up to his own friends when he thinks they're breaking the rules and putting Gryffindor at risk, and he's the one who loses points for it. When the group around Harry forms a secret defence class, he practises hard and becomes one of its best fighters.
By the final books he is a leader in his own right. He takes on dangerous opposition at school and makes a stand at the climax of the war. His growth from a nervous child into a hero is the series' best-loved character arc. That's why we score him so high.
