Do we like Nemo?
A character from Finding Nemo (2003)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's a bit reckless at the start, but he turns out brave, loyal and quick to think, and he cares about his friends.
Nemo is a young clownfish with a smaller fin on one side. His father Marlin is very cautious and fusses over him. The film follows a father and son who are separated and each have to learn something about the other. It starts on Nemo's first day of school, where he is eager to show he can look after himself.
He is a lovable kid, but he isn't perfect. Pushed by a dare and stung by his dad's overprotectiveness, he swims out too close to the surface to prove himself. That gets him caught by a diver, and he ends up in a dentist's fish tank far from home. His mistake is the one that starts the story.
In the tank, Nemo doesn't sulk for long. He joins the other fish in an escape plan and shows real courage and cleverness. Meanwhile his dad is crossing the ocean to find him, and Nemo is every bit as determined to get back. The score is high because he owns his mistakes and keeps growing from them.
Later, with his dad and Dory in danger, Nemo takes a big risk to help rescue Dory, and proves to Marlin he can look after himself. The ending sees both of them grow, and Marlin finally trusts him to go off to school on his own.
