Do we like Mike Wazowski?

A character from Monsters, Inc. (2001)

Our score: 8 out of 10. Loud, vain and a bit of a worrier, but he's a loyal friend who comes through when it counts. We'd back him, and we'd keep an eye on his ego.

Mike works at Monsters, Inc., a factory in a world where monsters power their city with the screams of human children. He's the cheerful, fast-talking coach and partner of top scarer James P. Sullivan (Sulley). Mike does the paperwork and plays the planner, while Sulley does the scaring. He also has a girlfriend, Celia, and is very proud of her.

Mike is vain, a worrier, and a bit of a show-off. He loves the spotlight and hates being left out of it. He talks big, frets about details, and flares up when things go wrong. But those traits come with real warmth, quick wits, and a lot of loyalty to the people he cares about.

When a human child ends up in the monster world and the company's routines start to unravel, Mike's first instinct is to panic and protect himself. He doesn't stay there. He pulls together his courage and his cleverness, and he sticks with his friend when it counts. That mix of flaws and loyalty is why he scores well: he's not perfect, but he's a good friend and worth following.
