Do we like Mike Ehrmantraut?

A character from Breaking Bad (2009-2013)

Our score: 6 out of 10. A loyal, principled-by-his-own-code professional who loves his granddaughter. He's also a criminal who cleans up bodies, so we'd back him with eyes open.

Mike first appears as a quiet, no-nonsense problem solver who handles the dirty jobs other criminals don't want to touch. A former Philadelphia police officer, he is dry, watchful and impossible to rattle. He is also a devoted grandfather who spends his off hours with his granddaughter.

He becomes a key part of the drug business around Walter White. He is the cautious professional beside Walt's growing ego, always thinking about risk, loose ends and keeping people out of trouble. He is blunt and blackmail-proof, and he says what he thinks.

We score him a 6. His loyalty, competence and honesty make him one of the show's most likable figures. But he knowingly serves a criminal enterprise that hurts many people, and he does it for money. He's the kind of guy you'd want in your corner, as long as you never ask what the job is.

His fate comes in the final stretch of the series, when his clash with Walt costs him dearly. It's a bitter end for a man who tried to do things the careful way.
