Do we like Miguel Rivera?
A character from Coco (2017)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's brave, kind and loyal, and his stubbornness comes from love of music and family. He does lie and sneak around at first.
Miguel lives in Santa Cecilia, Mexico, in a family of shoemakers. Generations ago a musician abandoned the family, and since then music has been banned in the house. Miguel secretly adores music and idolizes the late singer Ernesto de la Cruz.
On the Day of the Dead, a run-in with his family's rules sends Miguel on a journey into the colorful Land of the Dead. There he meets his ancestors and a charming trickster called Héctor, and he has to find a way home before it's too late.
We give Miguel an 8. He's earnest, brave and quick to care about others, and his main flaw is a stubborn, impulsive streak. He learns that family and passion don't have to be at odds, and he treats the people he meets, living or dead, with real warmth.
