Do we like Mick "Crocodile" Dundee?
A character from Crocodile Dundee (1986)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Easy yes. He's kind, brave, funny and fair, and he treats everyone the same. He's also harmless unless someone starts a fight, and then he finishes it with style.
Mick Dundee is a bushman from the small town of Walkabout Creek in the Australian outback. Local legend says he survived a savage crocodile attack. A New York reporter, Sue Charlton, travels out to meet him and write about it. The man she finds is nothing like she expects. He's quick-witted, easygoing, and completely at home in the wild.
Sue invites Mick back to New York City, and the film becomes a fish-out-of-water comedy. Mick has never left Australia, and city life baffles him. He meets it with good humour and plain-spoken honesty instead of cynicism. He takes people as they come, and that's why they like him.
We'd back him because of how he behaves. He's decent, brave and funny, and he doesn't put on airs. He loses a couple of points because he's a bit of a rolling stone who isn't sure he belongs anywhere but the bush. But he's the kind of mate you'd want beside you in a tight spot, whether it's a crocodile or a mugger.
