Do we like Meredith Grey?
A character from Grey's Anatomy (2005–present)
Our score: 7 out of 10. Flawed, guarded and sometimes a mess, but she's brilliant, loyal and keeps showing up for her patients and her people. We'd back her, and we'd also push her to go to therapy.
Meredith Grey starts as a first-year surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital. She is the daughter of a famously brilliant surgeon, and she arrives with plenty of emotional baggage and a habit of keeping people at arm's length. The show follows her and her fellow interns as they learn to be doctors under intense pressure.
Over the seasons she grows from a guarded, self-doubting newcomer into a gifted surgeon and leader. She is sarcastic, stubborn and prone to bad decisions in her personal life. When it counts, she is fiercely loyal and puts patients first. Her close friendships, especially with Cristina Yang, are the heart of the show.
We give her a 7. She is not a flawless hero: she can be self-destructive, avoidant and quick to break rules. But the good she does as a surgeon, a teacher and a friend clearly outweighs the damage. Her flaws are what make her relatable, and she keeps trying to do better.
