Do we like Makima?
A character from Chainsaw Man (2018–present)
Our score: 2 out of 10. Warm smile, kind offers, and a very firm leash. She's magnetic and capable, but we wouldn't trust her with our lives, let alone our hearts.
Chainsaw Man follows Denji, a poor young man in debt who hunts devils with his chainsaw-dog companion Pochita. Makima is the composed, soft-spoken Public Safety Devil Hunter who offers him a way out of that life. She gives him a home, a purpose and the promise of everything he's ever wanted.
Makima is the series' great charmer. She is patient, always in control, and unsettlingly good at making people feel chosen. She gets Denji to do what she wants by feeding his longing for affection and normal comforts, and she keeps tight control over the squad around him.
We score her low because her kindness is a tool. Her warmth never seems to cost her anything, and the people near her are always caught in her plans. She is fascinating and often impressive, but she is not someone to back.
