Do we like Majin Buu?
A character from Dragon Ball Z (1994-1995)
Our score: 4 out of 10. He's a cheerful, sweet-toothed kid with a deadly temper. We'd happily share cake with him, but we'd keep well clear whenever he gets angry.
Majin Buu is a magical creature from Dragon Ball Z's last big saga. He looks like a round pink child and is obsessed with candy, chocolate and cake. He was created to destroy, and he treats the whole universe like a playground.
His powers are almost unlimited. He regenerates from any injury and fires beams that turn people into food. His mood decides how he behaves. When he's happy he's silly and almost endearing. When he's angry or teased, he becomes a terrifying danger.
He gets a 4 because the harm he causes far outweighs his charm. Much of that harm is closer to a tantrum than to cruelty. He is a force of nature more than a villain with a plan. He is fun to watch and has real moments of warmth, but we wouldn't trust him with the keys to the planet.
His story changes shape across the saga. Splitting off his meaner side lets a gentler Good Buu appear, and that Buu forms a real friendship with a human. The darker, childlike form that follows is the purest version of his destructive nature. His arc shows that he can be redeemed once someone is kind to him.
