Do we like Lord Voldemort?
A character from Harry Potter (1997–2007)
Our score: 0 out of 10. No. He's a power-hungry tyrant who murders for fun and fears death more than anything. Nobody should back him, not even his own side.
Tom Marvolo Riddle grows up in a London orphanage. He is a gifted, cold and proud boy who hates his ordinary name. At Hogwarts he turns his name into an anagram, "I am Lord Voldemort". He gathers followers, the Death Eaters, and becomes the most feared dark wizard of his age. Most wizards are too scared to say his name out loud.
The Harry Potter books open after Voldemort has already murdered Harry's parents and tried to kill baby Harry. He failed, and was left weakened and bodiless. Over the series he schemes to return and to finish what he started. Harry, Ron and Hermione are mostly the ones who stand in his way.
He scores 0 because there is nothing to redeem him. He is cruel, vain and obsessed with beating death. He sees people as tools or obstacles, and he can't understand love or loyalty. He is a great villain, but we would never back him.
In the end, his refusal to accept death and his misunderstanding of love and loyalty bring about his own downfall. Harry's side beats him.
