Do we like Loid Forger?
A character from Spy x Family (2019–present)
Our score: 8 out of 10. A deadpan, endlessly competent spy who is also a surprisingly devoted fake dad. We'd happily back him, even if his parenting is mostly improvised.
Loid Forger is the codename-free face of Westalis's top spy, Twilight, who can pass as anyone. The series begins when he gets his hardest mission yet: get close to a reclusive politician whose actions threaten the fragile peace between two rival nations. To do it, he needs a child enrolled at an elite school, plus a wife.
He invents a family overnight. He adopts a girl, Anya, and picks a wife, Yor, off the street. Neither is what she seems, and each is hiding a secret of their own. Loid's careful plans keep running into the chaos of a household he can't fully control.
We score him high because his warmth keeps leaking through the professionalism. He is a sharp, self-sacrificing, funny straight man, and he's visibly troubled by the suffering that wars cause. He's a liar by trade, but his lies protect people. The points he loses are for manipulation and for treating his new family as tools, which he does less and less as the show goes on.
