Do we like Legolas?
A character from The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's loyal, brave and kind, and he's deadly with a bow. He's also the friend who turns a grumpy quest into a real fellowship.
Legolas is an Elf of the Woodland Realm. In the films he is the son of its king, and he is a prince as well as a warrior. He is at Rivendell when the Council of Elrond meets. There he volunteers to join the Fellowship, the nine travellers who set out to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom.
On the road he is the Fellowship's eyes and its ranged firepower. He sees danger far off, treads lightly where others struggle, and shoots with great speed and accuracy. He is calm, courteous and loyal to Aragorn, and he cares about the hobbits he travels with.
He also grows. At the start he is wary of Dwarves and a bit aloof, as an Elf of his people might be. His rivalry with Gimli turns into one of the best friendships in the story, with plenty of banter along the way. He also ends up connecting Elves with the wider world. That's why he scores so high: he's brave, decent, funny in a dry way, and he doesn't hurt anyone who doesn't have it coming.
