Do we like Kirito?
A character from Sword Art Online (2012)
Our score: 7 out of 10. Very skilled, and loyal to those he cares about. He is also a brooding loner and a bit of a hero magnet. We'd back him, though we'd tell him to share the load.
Kirito is a gifted teenage gamer and a former beta tester of Sword Art Online, a VR game. On launch day, players learn they can't log out, and that dying in the game means dying for real. He chooses to go solo, using his beta knowledge to level fast.
His guilt over leaving other players behind makes him distant. Even so, he keeps helping people, and he is dual-wielding-level brave when it counts. He is quiet, sarcastic, and more caring than he lets on, though sometimes overpowered and a little too self-sacrificing.
He scores a 7 because his courage, loyalty, and willingness to protect others far outweigh his stubborn loner habits and the occasional reckless call. He is the kind of lead who is easy to root for, even if he isn't the most nuanced.
