Do we like Kath Day-Knight?
A character from Kath & Kim (2002–2007)
Our score: 7 out of 10. Yes, we'd back her. She is warm, loyal and endlessly generous, even when she's being vain, a bit daft or too soft on her daughter.
Kath is a middle-aged woman in the suburb of Fountain Lakes. She's proud of her body, loves a new hobby or craze, and is always chasing her next good time. The show follows her everyday life with her grown-up daughter Kim, who is spoiled and self-centred. Kath's love life and her friends, including the loyal Sharon, fill the rest of her days.
What makes Kath easy to back is her big heart. She has little cash and plenty of misplaced confidence, but she keeps her door open, her fridge full and her opinions loud. She stands up for the people she loves, and she enjoys life, which makes her very funny to watch. She's also a very soft touch with Kim, who takes full advantage.
She isn't perfect. She's vain, she over-shares, and she tells small fibs to dodge awkward moments. She's also so keen to keep the peace that Kim never has to grow up. These flaws are mostly harmless and often funny, and they keep her from a perfect score. She remains one of the warmest and most loyal mums in TV comedy, and we'd happily share a glass of Chardonnay with her.
