Do we like Kaguya Shinomiya?
A character from Kaguya-sama: Love Is War (2015–present)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back her. She's petty, proud and absurdly competitive about love, but she's loyal and kind underneath, and she grows into someone you want to win.
Kaguya is the elegant heir of one of Japan's richest families. She is top of the class at an elite academy and serves as student council vice president beside the president, Miyuki Shirogane. The two are secretly in love, but both are too proud to confess first. Each day becomes a comic war of wits to trick the other into saying it.
Her sheltered, strict upbringing left her cold and guarded, and also socially clueless. That is where much of the comedy comes from. She overthinks everything and treats small moments as battles, but her feelings are sincere. Her loyal maid Hayasaka is her closest ally.
We score her well because the schemes are harmless and funny. Her real warmth shows through, and she slowly learns to trust people and be honest about what she wants. She is petty and stubborn, which keeps her from a perfect score. That flaw is also a big part of her charm.
