Do we like Jotaro Kujo?

A character from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders (1989-1992)

Our score: 8 out of 10. A gruff, deadpan brawler with a solid moral core. He's rude and intimidating, but he's loyal and he protects people. We'd back him.

Jotaro Kujo is a 17-year-old in 1989 Japan with a famously fierce temper, a long coat and a permanent scowl. He's a delinquent who brawls often but doesn't pick on the weak. He locks himself in a jail cell, convinced he's possessed by an evil spirit. That 'spirit' is really his Stand, Star Platinum, a powerful guardian that fights alongside him.

His grandfather Joseph Joestar and a small team explain that a supernatural curse tied to an old family enemy is slowly killing his mother. Jotaro agrees to cross Asia and the Middle East to Egypt to end it. Along the way he faces a string of Stand users, usually with a calm, clever approach and an unshakeable nerve.

We score him an 8 because his abrasive manner hides real loyalty. He's blunt, he's not exactly polite, and he's quick to violence. But his actions are consistently heroic: he puts himself between danger and the people he loves, and he's reliably calm and smart in a fight.
