Do we like Jon Snow?
A character from Game of Thrones (2011–2019)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's honest, brave and fair, and he keeps doing the right thing even when it costs him. He's also stubborn, and he can be a poor politician.
Jon is introduced as the illegitimate son of Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell. He grows up alongside his trueborn half-siblings but never quite belongs. Wanting to earn a place of his own, he travels north to join the Night's Watch, an ancient order that guards the Wall against threats from Beyond. His direwolf Ghost goes with him.
At Castle Black, Jon starts as a proud recruit who looks down on the misfits around him. He soon learns to respect them, and he becomes a protector of the weak and a friend to the unwanted. He rises quickly through the ranks, and his honesty and sense of duty keep drawing people to follow him. He is a hero in the classic mould, and he keeps his humility.
His flaws are what keep the score from reaching a 9 or 10. He is stubborn and brooding, and he is often too blunt and too trusting for the political games around him. He tends to act on principle without thinking about the fallout, and that makes trouble for him and for those near him. We'd still follow him, because his instincts are good even when his judgment isn't.
Later in the story he leads the Night's Watch, and he makes the controversial choice to let the wildlings through the Wall. That choice costs him dearly. He is later brought back from death, becomes King in the North, and learns a secret about his parentage. In the end he is forced into a heartbreaking decision and ends up exiled.
