Do we like John Luther?
A character from Luther (2010–2019)
Our score: 6 out of 10. We'd back him for his fierce loyalty and his drive to protect victims. We'd also keep a close eye on him, because his temper and rule-breaking cause real damage.
John Luther is a detective chief inspector in London's Serious Crime Unit. He has an instinct for how killers think and a near-genius mind. The BBC drama follows him through disturbing cases while his own passions and demons make his job and his personal life harder.
He is magnetic, driven and deeply moral at his core, but he is also unstable. He'll cross legal lines when he thinks the system is too slow to save someone. That makes him a strong ally in a crisis and a risk to anyone who has to work under him or alongside him.
The score is 6 because the good he does is large and sincere, but so is the collateral damage. He is easy to root for and hard to endorse, so we'd back him while keeping an eye on him.
