Do we like Joey Tribbiani?

A character from Friends (1994–2004)

Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's not the sharpest, but he's loyal, generous and kind, and he shows up for his friends. The only real hazards are his dating habits and his sandwich.

Joey is a Italian-American actor from a big family with seven sisters. He lives across the hall from Monica and Rachel, sharing a flat with Chandler, and spends most of his time chasing auditions, dates and a good meal. Friends is a sitcom about six pals in New York, and Joey is its charming, sweet-natured goofball.

He's famously dim, but the show makes him a loving and fiercely loyal friend. He has little money and plenty of appetite, but he'll give a mate the shirt off his back (usually while wearing several of Chandler's). His dating life is a running joke. He's upfront and generally good-natured about it, though it can make him look shallow. Where it counts, he's reliable, protective and warm. That's why he scores high: he's a hero for a hangout, not for a quest.

His big break comes as Dr. Drake Ramoray on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, but he loses the role after claiming he writes his own lines, and the character is killed off. Joey later got his own spin-off, Joey, which sent him to Hollywood to try to make it as an actor.
