Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, with caveats. He's arrogant and reckless, but he keeps trying to fix his own mistakes and keeps putting himself in harm's way for everyone else.

Tony Stark is a brilliant, wisecracking weapons manufacturer who inherits a vast company and lives a life of luxury. In the first Iron Man film, a brush with the consequences of his own business changes how he sees his work, and he builds a high-tech armored suit to fight back.

Across the Marvel films he's a mix of charm and ego. He's quick with a joke, slow to trust others, and always tinkering. His flaws are real: he hides things from allies, and his big solutions sometimes create new problems. But he takes responsibility, and he's willing to change.

We give him an 8. He's not the most disciplined or humble hero, but his courage, generosity and willingness to sacrifice for others are what make us back him, and the people around him make him better.
