Do we like Inkling?
A character from Splatoon (2015)
Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back them. They're a cheerful, stylish team player whose worst crime is a messy paint job. They'll also pitch in when real trouble turns up.
Inklings are the playable species of Nintendo's Splatoon series. They look like humans in humanoid form but can turn into squids, which lets them swim through their own ink. They live in a bright, street-fashion world of music, battles and sneakers.
Their main pastime is Turf War, a team sport where players cover the arena in ink, and splat rivals who get in the way. It's competitive but good-natured, and the whole game is about style, teamwork and showing off.
Beyond the sport, the single-player Inkling gets pulled into larger problems, and they step up without much fuss. Inklings also have a long-running rivalry with Octarians and Octolings. The games treat it as a clash of cultures rather than evil, which keeps the Inkling likable. They're a bit cocky, but they're good-hearted and always on the team's side.
