Do we like Hush?

Our score: 8 out of 10. Sweet, trusting and brave on a long journey. She harms no one and is easy to back, though she mostly follows Grandma's lead.

Hush is a young possum in the Australian bush. Her Grandma Poss uses bush magic to make her invisible so that snakes can't find her. It works, and Hush is safe.

The trouble is that Grandma can't remember how to undo the spell. The two set off around Australia, city by city, looking for the special foods that might make Hush visible again.

Hush gets the 8 because she is loving, patient and game for an adventure, and she never causes any harm. She follows Grandma's lead more than she acts on her own, which keeps her short of a full hero. The book has been in print since 1983 and is a much-loved Australian classic.
