Do we like Hornet?

A character from Hollow Knight (2017)

Our score: 8 out of 10. Yes, we'd back her. She's prickly and quick to fight, but she's honest, brave and fiercely protective of her home.

Hornet is a spider-like warrior in Hollow Knight, armed with a needle and silk thread, who lives in the overgrown Greenpath area. She is a fast and acrobatic duelist who shouts as she fights. The first time you meet her, she treats the Knight as an intruder and tests them in battle.

She is not a villain. She is guarded, proud and dutiful, and she cares about protecting Hallownest, the ruined kingdom the game is set in. She keeps turning up to challenge the Knight, then to help or warn them, so she is a rival who slowly becomes an ally.

In the sequel, Silksong (2025), she is the playable lead and the first voiced protagonist. She is a determined and capable hero, but still sharp-tongued. We give her an 8 out of 10 because she is brave, loyal and hard-working, though she can be short-tempered and aloof.
