Do we like Hisoka?

A character from Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Our score: 2 out of 10. Dazzling and magnetic, but he's a thrill-seeking menace who treats people as fruit to ripen. We'd enjoy watching him and never back him.

Hisoka is a magician-like Hunter-exam applicant with a painted face and a deck of playing cards. He first appears in the Hunter Exam arc, where the young hero Gon is trying to become a Hunter. He is polite, playful and very dangerous.

His one real motive is the thrill of fighting strong opponents. He deliberately leaves promising talents alive so they can grow stronger and fight him later. That makes him an odd, unwanted mentor to Gon, and he is unsettling to be around.

He is charismatic and often funny, and his unpredictability keeps the show tense. But he is cruel, manipulative and obsessed, and any help he gives is selfish. He scores low as someone to back, and high as a villain to watch.
