Do we like Harry Potter?
A character from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997)
Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, we'd back him. He's brave, loyal and kind, and he's often hot-headed. He keeps choosing others over himself, and we'd follow him into the Forbidden Forest.
Harry is an orphan raised by an aunt and uncle who mistreat him. On his 11th birthday he finds out his parents were a witch and a wizard, and that he is one too. He is invited to Hogwarts, where he is already famous as the boy who survived an attack by the dark wizard Voldemort. The attack left him with a lightning-bolt scar.
At Hogwarts he becomes friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, and he makes a rival in Draco Malfoy. Headmaster Albus Dumbledore takes an interest in him. Harry is brave, loyal and quick to stand up for people who are being picked on. He also has flaws. J.K. Rowling has said they include anger and impulsiveness, and he can be reckless and stubborn.
Our score reflects his character more than his luck. Harry's habit of charging in without a plan can make things worse, and he often breaks rules. But his choices come from loyalty and a sense of right and wrong, not from wanting glory. He shares credit, trusts his friends, and keeps going when he's scared. That's why he gets a 9 from us.
