Do we like Grogu?

A character from The Mandalorian (2019–2023)

Our score: 9 out of 10. Yes, easily. He's a loyal, brave little troublemaker who uses his powers to protect the people he loves. The only real cost is the chaos he causes on the way.

The Mandalorian follows a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin, who takes a job to retrieve a mysterious target. The target turns out to be a small green child, pursued on behalf of Imperial remnants. Instead of handing him over, Din decides to protect him. Fans call him Baby Yoda, but his name is Grogu. He is Force-sensitive and was once a student at the Jedi Temple, but he survived and went into hiding.

Grogu is a mix of mischief and heart. He yanks levers in the cockpit, snatches snacks and wanders into trouble. But he is also fiercely attached to Din, and he will use the Force to protect him when it counts. He is a child who has been alone and hunted for most of his life, and he keeps showing trust and affection anyway.

That's why he scores so high. He does almost no real harm, and he makes the people around him braver and softer. He loses a few points only because the trouble he causes is constant and sometimes costly.

Over the series he is taken away to train as a Jedi under Luke Skywalker. He ends up rejecting that path and choosing to go back to Din, his adoptive father, and to the Mandalorian way of life.
