Do we like Greg Heffley?

A character from Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2007–present)

Our score: 4 out of 10. Funny and oddly relatable, but he's selfish, lazy and quick to blame others. We'd laugh with him, but we wouldn't trust him with our snacks.

Greg Heffley is a middle schooler who writes a "journal" (not a diary) about surviving school, his annoying family and the social ladder. He thinks he's smarter and more deserving than everyone around him.

He's an unreliable narrator. He sees himself as the hero, but the drawings and events often show him being lazy, scheming and unfair. His best friend Rowley, who is kinder and more sincere, often pays for it.

We score him a 4 because he's very funny and hard to hate, since his flaws are so common at that age. But he seldom learns from his mistakes and often puts himself first. Fans of the books would back him for the laughs, not for his character.
