Do we like Glinda?
A character from Wicked (2024–2025)
Our score: 7 out of 10. Vain and self-serving at first, but she has a real heart and grows into someone we'd back, even if she doesn't always find the courage to do right.
Glinda (first called Galinda) arrives at Shiz University as a rich, charming, popular girl who is used to getting her way. She is forced to share a room with Elphaba, a brilliant and misunderstood girl with green skin. The two clash at first, in a story that reimagines the Land of Oz before Dorothy.
Glinda is funny and vain, and she wants to be loved. Underneath that, she is generous and loyal, and she gives Elphaba a kindness few others do. Her flaw is that she often chases popularity and approval instead of standing up for what she knows is right.
We score her a 7. She isn't a flawless hero, and her choices can be selfish or cowardly. But she is sincere, she learns from her mistakes, and her friendship with Elphaba is the heart of the story. That friendship is why we'd back her.
